Orchard Stone House
Orchard Stone House is a residence built as temporary accommodation for workers on a fruit orchard in eastern Bulgaria. The house provides living areas and work space within a setting of natural beauty. Long distance views reach the Stara Planina Mountain to the north, while a lake to the east is home to many wild birds. A large orchard lies to the southwest. The design follows the structure of a nut, with a robust pair of stone walls enclosing the interior. The concrete structure is faced with stone quarried on the site. The habitable area covers 300 square meters.
Orchard Stone House Residence by Rado Iliev was selected as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Orchard Stone House Residence won the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design recognition program that recognizes superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
