Gateway to Lofoten
Gateway to Lofoten is an apartment building designed for Roest in Lofoten. The form is inspired by traditional fishing houses and by the long local history of cod fishing and stockfish production. Local building customs guide the shape and the choice of materials, while a modern twist is added through mirrored gabled roofs on the lower part of the building. The lower structure is light and hangs from the same concrete slab that supports the upper levels. The building is 38 meters wide, 7.7 meters deep and three stories high. It contains studio apartments and larger apartments.
Gateway to Lofoten Appartments by Manuela Hardy has been featured as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Gateway to Lofoten Appartments won the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious international design competition which rewards outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
