Hikari Tsuzuraori
Hikari Tsuzuraori is a two storey vacation house located in Kamakura, Japan, near Hasedera Temple. The site is a flag lot surrounded by close neighboring houses, so natural light was limited. The structural core is divided into four parts, placed unevenly to form small gardens and to draw daylight inside. The staggered cores and the alternately folded roof slope create an opening at the top, admitting sunlight by day and offering a view of the stars at night. The lower floor is a quiet Japanese space for meditation, while the upper floor is open and bright for family life.
Hikari Tsuzuraori Residential House by Hironari Itoi was identified as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Hikari Tsuzuraori Residential House was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious international design competition which rewards outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
