Jun Yi
International Department of Junyi is a middle school building in Beijing. The project converts a former basketball arena into an educational space with ordinary classrooms, multifunctional activity rooms and shared areas. Inspired by classical gardens, the folded and staggered layout forms a rich spatial structure with corridors and platforms. Skylights and open windows bring daylight, sky and landscape views inside. The facade combines weathering steel panels, U-shaped glass and a glass curtain wall, creating three levels of transparency, and bamboo trees are set into it.
Jun Yi Middle School by Ximin Chen was featured as an exceptional representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Jun Yi Middle School won the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program that celebrates superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
